White Knight Painting’s 2018 Charity Paint Give Away Finalists
First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate an individual, organization or institution for White Knight Painting’s 10th Annual Charity Paint Give Away.
With great difficulty, the top three finalists have been chosen.
Over the next two weeks, we will be visiting the finalists to learn more about them and to see how we can help.
And the finalists are …
The Threshold Housing Society
The Threshold Housing Society helps give at-risk-youth the skills to transition into independent living.
They need their office freshened up to make it a more inviting place for the workers, volunteers, and clients.
Here’s the Threshold Housing Society nominators had to say:
“Threshold provides a valuable service to the community by getting and keeping youth off of the streets of Victoria, providing them homes and life skills training.”
“Wonderful organization. Making the world a better place.”
“It’s always better to work and meet in a welcoming environment. Fresh paint would add to the ambiance of the offices – to be a warmer, welcoming place for youth and staff.”
The Girl Guides of Canada, Southern Vancouver Island Area, Kingswood Camp
The Kingswood camp is where the Girl Guides can explore nature, learn about the environment and build life skills.
The Kingswood Camp’s main meeting area, the McKevitt Lodge has not been painted in over 20 years and needs our help.
The Girl Guide supporters have told us:
“The camp is all about being there for the children. The camp could really use some help. It is a great place where girls gain confidence and make lasting memories.”
“Every year hundreds of young girl guides use Kingswood Camp facilities to learn about the environment, gain personal skills, work, play and explore nature. There are two areas for camping and the McKevitt Lodge for indoor camping.”
“The McKevitt Lodge at Camp Kingswood was built in 1958 and underwent extensive renovations in 1993 and an extension built in 1997. The Lodge
has been in need of new paint since that renovation over twenty years ago. This final touch would re-energize the space for girls and adults using it as well as be an obvious statement of GGC’s commitment to maintaining its properties.”
The Frederic Ozanam Center, Society St Vincent de Paul
The Frederic Ozanam Center offers day programs to people with developmental disabilities.
Fresh paint is needed to make a more welcoming and inspiring space.
The backers of the Frederic Ozanam Center wrote:
“The people I work with would be so grateful to have a fresh coat of paint on our walls. I think it would really cheer up the space and be great for the morale of both staff and the wonderful clients we support.”
“Due to funding cutbacks, our buildings are beat-up. Wheelchairs damage the walls and pillars and the damage hasn’t been fixed in years. It would be wonderful for our clients to have nice looking walls!”
“They are the best day program going in Victoria for people with disabilities.”
